Happy Third Birthday, BlogF1

Today marks the third birthday for BlogF1, the domain having been registered on Friday, 13th January, 2006. It’s amazing to think what has happened in the past three years, both within the sport and with the site. Back then, Fernando Alonso was giving Michael Schumacher a driving lesson, Lewis Hamilton was still in lower formulae and the site consisted of a handful of posts and pages containing sparse information. Today, Schumacher has retired, Hamilton is the reigning world champion and the site has over 100 pages and over 1300 posts.

In all honesty, I’m surprised the site is still going, having started BlogF1 as a bit of fun and a way to stop boring the regular readers at my personal site with Formula One; apparently not everyone is interested! Since then though, BlogF1 has become a hobby that is out of control. It’s all good though, right down to the typos and bugs.

Over the years, many new ideas have come and gone, but the core of the site remains – trying to make sense of, explain and understand Formula One. Along the way the site has made many friends, attracted readers from all ages and countries and continues to garner praise and attention. Something of which I’m still fathoming out!

So as the build up to the 2009 season relentlessly charges forward, I thought I would take a second to mark the day with a simple post and a few embarrassing screenshots…

…oh, and thanks for the cake, Nick.

  • Thanks guys.

@Café com F1: I’m sure you’ve commented before; I recognise your site. Thanks though, and welcome. 🙂

Yikes, that’s three years of a lot of effort you’ve put in Ollie!

I realised the other day that I’m probably approaching my 1 millionth word written in the posts (approx avg post word count x number of posts), a lot more if you include the pages. I don’t dare think how much you guys have written in the comments…! 🙂

  • It must have been extra hard work to overcome the fact you registered the domain on Friday 13th!!

Unlike most Formula One drivers, I’m not superstitious! Although whenever I Iogin to the site, I do stand on one leg (left) and touch my nose with my right index finger. 😀

Here’s to the next three years…

Thanks Kris, I’m looking forward to them already.

Who knows what they will bring?

Hopefully, flapjacks. Or failing that, I’d settle for a chocolate chip cookie. 😀

  • Happy birthday, Blog F1!

You can be proud of all your screenshots – you’ve worked hard to make a really good blog and you’ve improved even in the time I’ve been reading and commenting.

Since the internet has yet to invent a proper FTP (Food Transfer Protocal), will this do?

Yep, cake for me too please.

    So who’s providing all this?

Ah, Alianora is! 😉 A fantastic picture, thank you very much.

Thanks guys. I suppose it is quite the milestone, but I’m sure there will more and better ones to come. And thank you for the kind words Alia.

Best of all, they’re all true.

  • Mmmm, cheeeeeesecake… {Ollie – previous post}

Cheesecake is my second favourite pudding (after rice pudding, but even I would admit that rice pudding is not particularly suitable as party food).

Thanks Gman. I just got around to reading your email, I’ll pop a reply over at some point soon providing things here don’t get too busy. Although given the past couple of days, Formula One has suddenly come alive again!
