Paul Ricard Test Day One: Hamilton Tops The Tables

Lewis Hamilton has topped the tables on the first day of the Paul Ricard test in France. The McLaren driver lapped a comfortable 0.489s faster than Ferrari pilot Kimi Raikkonen. The teams were running on the shorter, twistier layout, allowing the squads to prepare their cars for the Monaco Grand Prix in a weeks time. Lots of new aerodynamic pieces were found on the bodies of the cars and Williams even ran a fin on Nico Rosberg’s Williams FW30 in the morning.

Sebastian Vettel finally got his hands on the STR, the German didn’t get a chance last time as his team mate, Sebastien Bourdais, trashed the only chassis they had at the last test. However, finally getting some running in, Vettel completed 91 laps and went fifth fastest.

Vitantonio Liuzzi was in force in the Force India, completing 106 laps but only going faster than Lucas di Grassi in the Renault, the Brazilian driver being a protege of the Renault Driver Development program and two years in GP2.
