Valencia Test Day Two: Ferrari Dominate

Felipe Massa - 2008 TestingThe first full day of the Valencia test was completed earlier after Williams and Renault ran their new cars yesterday for the first time. Today saw sixteen drivers out on track and it was the Ferrari’s that headed the tables with Felipe Massa going fastest. Kimi Raikkonen followed closely in the sister F2008 and prevented Nico Rosberg from splitting the Scuderias at the top. Heikki Kovalainen and Pedro De La Rosa ran the new McLaren during the day and finished in fourth and fifth.

Renault sent Fernando Alonso drive the new R28 car into sixth and Williams had a productive day with Kazuki Nakajima going seventh in the FW29, lapping 0.6s slower than the new car. Toyota were present with both race drivers and two TF108 chassis. Jarno Trulli managed to get into twelfth and Timo Glock in fourteenth.

I am pretty happy with what we have achieved but we know there is still room for improvement so we will continue to work hard. We did quite a lot of laps today which was the plan and it was good to see the new car continues to be reliable. Jarno Trulli.

Sebastian Vettel ran the car that will start the 2008 season, although it isn’t a new car rather than an updated STR2. Vettel finished in eighth and team mate Sebastien Bourdais ended his day in tenth. Red Bull were represented by David Coulthard in the new RBR4 and BMW sent Nick Heidfeld in the new F108 and Marko Asmer in the F107. Force India turned up with Vitantonio Liuzzi and Alex Wurz debuted in the white Honda, running the old car while he gets used to the team.

  • I wish Williams stays that high up when the season starts … It would awesome if this efficient privateer operation can show to the big spenders that F1 can still be done the right and sensible way

it so good to see Williams recovering from the 2006 nightmare …
