As many have already predicted, Formula One’s legendary commentator Murray Walker will return to the commentary box this season, standing in for BBC Radio Five Live’s David Croft. David’s wife is due to give birth to their first child in the week of the German race held at the Nurburgring, and really there was only one person who could have filled his shoes. Walker, who has made his career out of describing on-track events for 52 years decided to unplug his microphone for the last time in 2001. However, with his recent involvement with the Honda racing team, it is clear that Murray still thrives on the competition, and each time the 84 year old talks about F1, his passion oozes out more so than any other person I have known or heard.
Walker will spend the whole weekend in the commentary box, commentating on qualifying and the race. The veteran will also host s special phone-in for listeners on Saturday evening at the German circuit.
