Button To Miss Second Practice Due To Back Pain

Jenson Button - 2007 Malaysian Grand PrixHonda driver Jenson Button will sit out the second of the two free practice sessions for the British Grand Prix this afternoon. The Briton is suffering from a recurring back pain that he sustained during his accident at turn one at Indianapolis last month. At a recent test Button complained of a twinge in his back, and it seems this injury has been aggravated during the first session this morning.

He [Button] is experiencing the same twinge in his back that he experienced as a result of the first corner incident at Indianapolis. As a precaution Jenson will rest this afternoon. At this point there is no reason to suggest he won’t be back in the car tomorrow. Honda spokeperson.

The team are hoping that Jenson will be able to continue with the race weekend, but has been sent to a London hospital to be further examined. The team will announce more news when they find out themselves later this afternoon.

Jenson had a sharp pain up his back as he went into Stowe over the bumps down there this morning, he continued to drive but had it a couple of times more. We decided it was better for him not to drive this afternoon, and he has gone down to hospital in London to have a proper scan and we will make a decision this afternoon or early this evening when we get a report, and then decide what we do tomorrow. Hopefully he can race, but we will see. Nick Fry.

Full practice session times will follow shortly.

  • I’ve been reading BlogF1 nearly every day – it’s just that I don’t always feel the need to comment on a given story.

As for sensing a Jenson fan, I like all the British drivers, and even if I didn’t, I find the idea of a driver missing a race due to injury a bit… …unfair. Thankfully, Jenson has been able to finish the weekend. With a decent qualifying, he might even have beaten Barrichello.
