Jacques has informed us that he is not ready to race after his Hockenheim accident.
This news allows Robert Kubica – who has been doing a solid testing job for BMW – to become the first Pole to drive in a Formula One race. Although it is not known if Kubica will drive anymore races this year, it is looking more and more likely that Villeneuve will lose his seat at the Swiss/German team either now or at the end of the year.
We have not made a decision on who will drive the car either in the remaining races of the season or next year.
It was clear at the start of the season that Villeneuve was not BMW’s number one choice, as it took the team quite a while to decide on their line-up. Eventually – and probably after the threat of legal action over contracts – Villeneuve was retained as the team changed from Sauber to BMW Sauber. However, while Villeneuve has definitely improved as the season has progressed, he still remains in the shadow of his German team mate –
