Kubica In & Villeneuve Out, for now…

Jacques Villeneuve - 2006 Canadian Grand PrixBMW Sauber has announced that Robert Kubica will replace Jacques Villeneuve in the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix. After Villeneuve’s heavy impact at last weekends German Grand Prix, Jacques has apparently told the team he is not ready to race, although a medical reason is yet to be given.

Jacques has informed us that he is not ready to race after his Hockenheim accident. Mario Thiessen.

This news allows Robert Kubica – who has been doing a solid testing job for BMW – to become the first Pole to drive in a Formula One race. Although it is not known if Kubica will drive anymore races this year, it is looking more and more likely that Villeneuve will lose his seat at the Swiss/German team either now or at the end of the year.

We have not made a decision on who will drive the car either in the remaining races of the season or next year. Mario Thiessen.

It was clear at the start of the season that Villeneuve was not BMW’s number one choice, as it took the team quite a while to decide on their line-up. Eventually – and probably after the threat of legal action over contracts – Villeneuve was retained as the team changed from Sauber to BMW Sauber. However, while Villeneuve has definitely improved as the season has progressed, he still remains in the shadow of his German team mate – Nick Heidfeld – who has 13 points to Villeneuve’s 7.

Although it doesn’t look good for Villeneuve in F1, he always has his music career hobby to fall back on…
